Sometimes something wonderful happens. Then I make a painting of something I've never seen before.
This Ipad artwork is called 'On the Bayou'. The amazing thing is that I made it before I ever saw a bayou. A bayou is a wetland, swampy area near the Mississippi. Bayous often look like large ponds or river branches. You can see many trees around it. They are often almost, half or completely in the water.
In April of this year I saw a bayou for the first time in my life. That was during a tour of the southern United States. Once back home, I looked at this work again. And I immediately said to myself: “aha, so this is a bayou, but you didn't know that before”.
Did I secretly repaint a photo? No, honestly not. Moreover: the work was made even before I started to orient myself on the journey.
Mysterious. Or were there a few pictures that I once saw stuck in my subconscious?
